Opaque - Dining in the Dark
Opaque is a luxury restaurant in LA, where visitors dine in the dark and blind waiters guide them through their meal. Dining at Opaque is a sensory experience, which promotes mindful eating. Customers can enjoy a meal without the distraction of sight or the influence of visual cues.

Concept
Our eyes only work properly when their is light to reflect. When presented with complete darkness, our eyes and our imaginations distort what we think we see. This experimental branding system alludes to blindness and highlights the absurdity of darkness. The logotype was created by dragging a printed copy of the typed word across a scanner bed, to capture the natural distortion of the letters. The typography throughout the system is presented in slanted columns to accentuate the distortion of darkness.

Social Media
These days, most people check Yelp or Instagram before trying out a new restaurant. Opaque will extend the dark dining experience to all of their social media networks by keeping their feed entirely black. Opaque will post captions that describe a meal or setting, as someone would normally do on their social media accounts, but the images will all be pitch black. Hopefully visiting customers will catch on and post their own black image with the #darkdining hash-tag.
